Now’s your chance to have your voice be heard regarding the massive Chesterfield bikeways plan. (Plan details) The county has plans to build miles and miles of new bike/pedestrian paths, spider-webbing all over the county. Current estimates are around $300 million over the next several years. And we know how cost overruns occur…the county was just off by 9 MILLION dollars for a school. This is the same county government that just tried to pass a NEW meals tax on residents, because the county didn’t have enough money for critical services. But somehow we’ll have money for bike paths? This is sheer lunacy given the current economic conditions. Bookmark this page, because we’ll say now that this plan WILL be “funded” on debt.

You’ll hear that “this is just a plan…it doesn’t commit funds”…but that’s just word games. What the county will do is add the approved plan to an election ballot as a bond referendum, and because everyone will vote for bike paths (who doesn’t love bike paths??), voila, instant debt funding.

But we have no chance of slowing (or stopping) this plan without your help. To win the game, you have to be on the field.

Schneider seems to be a more qualified independent voice, and Hughes is backed by mostly by the regular bad players of the Republican establishment.
Cantor paid a Democrat pollster $75,000 to tell him he was up +34 points two weeks before November 11th. They went to sleep. Cantor was in DC raising money on election night!

Anyone who refuses to answer constituent questions in front of the assembled Goochland Republican Woman's Club (for example) last month, and then claims, looking at his watch, he cannot take additional questions, because he has to leave "due to a scheduling conflict" is TOAST in Goochland County.

Then, Cantor sneaks behind the backs of his constituents and tries to craft a bill to legalize 11+ million illegals, when working people are trying to make ends meet. Most of our young people who are college graduates are working as waitresses and coffee baristas. This is not like Northern Virginia, where government bureaucrats are secure in their jobs and making much more than ordinary folk. People realize that the notion that we can outbid the Democrats in pandering to Hispanics is fictional nonsense. Reagan's folly in 1986 should have taught us this.

As the illegal children pour into Texas and Arizona on national TV by Democrat design (all future Democrats.), the hole was dug deeper. The establishment says "the border is secure and under control." Do you believe them, or do you believe your lying eyes? The Department of Homeland Security has refused to let the Border Patrol talk (some do anyway), or have the press interview the children, or their families. We are talking teenagers having unsupervised sex in warehouses on military bases, with rampant sexually transmitted diseases, TB, scabies, measles, etc. Ask ranchers who live in Arizona five miles from the Mexican border, if "the border is secure."

People here who have struggled to put their kids through college on a working man's salary resent giving in-state tuition to illegals. They resent calling on the phone and being told "Si necesitita Espanol, mache dos..." They resent being labeled a "racist" because they feel this way.

The media keeps referring to Brat as "a Tea Party candidate." The Tea Party did not give him a dime. He campaigned with two staffers (college kids probably), his cell phone, about $100,000, and a door- to- door effort/speaking to small groups. He had a 20 minute reasoned articulate stump speech, focused on five basic Republican principles.

The characterization that he is a "far right Tea Party kook" is nuts. Brat refuses to let the Democrats do to him what they did to Romney. In other words, he is a counter-puncher. He professes his Christian faith (Princeton Theological Seminary), but not in a threatening way. He is a school-trained PhD economist, who believes in the 10th Amendment, property rights, equal justice under the law, a smaller/less intrusive Constitution-limited federal government that lives within its means as founded, and free markets. Brat was outspent 25 to 1, but he was all over the Commonwealth's 7th District with a consistent message that resonated.

Cantor had money, power, and name ID, but he got killed on immigration, and the perception that he was in the pocket of the Chamber of Commerce and big business. Small businesses here are groaning under the weight of taxes and regulation, with more to come. Some have closed up shop, after years of success. As Brat said, "Dollars don't vote!"

The progressive pundits, even a few conservatives who should know better like George Will, try to argue that immigration was no big deal because of a poll that says 72% of the 7th District wanted immigration reform. Look behind the poll-what does immigration reform mean? To Goochlanders, it means secure the borders a la the Israelis, and don't talk to me about anything else until that has been done. Then, enforce the law against companies that hire illegals. Finally, we can discuss how to give illegals some kind of legal status- "not a path to citizenship," or a path to anything, but a bus ticket home if they break the law.

Local schools and hospitals are straining to accommodate illegals, even here. Last year, there was a terrible auto/truck crash on Turkey Trot Road. No one of the six injured could speak a word of English, and neither driver was licensed. A local bilingual resident happened by and served as translator for the police and ambulance personnel.

Last year, a popular nun in Virginia Beach was killed in a DUI accident by a repeat offender illegal with no license. He had not been deported, even though he had a rap sheet a mile long.

People here realize that Democrats will not enforce immigration law. So does half of Central America, including the estimated 34% non-Mexican. (Some leave Arabic literature behind in the desert.) Eric Holder sees a potential law suit behind every detention and traffic stop.

Progressive pundits also say that it was just a low turnout election, where a few "zealots" had exaggerated impact. This is BS- the turnout was 34% higher than in 2012, including an estimated 10,000-15,000 rich white Democrats, who hated Republicans and wanted to ruin the Republican primary by picking what they thought was a losing candidate.

There was a libertarian streak to all this. So stop taxing us (even the water that runs off our roofs, as measured by satellites); stop regulating us; stop stealing our land under eminent domain and environmental tyranny. "We did not vote for all this misery being inflicted on us; so leave us the Hell alone."

We hunt and fish. We love our guns, our horses, and our hounds. We resent ObamaCare asking us "Do you have a gun?" when we go in for a medical appointment. We know the history of "gun control" in Cuba, the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, China, etc.

We are proud of our history. One farm still has a brick granary burned out in the War Between the States by that infamous Yankee West Pointer Dahlgren. We take care of our own through the Goochland Free Clinic without government money or regulation. We develop great athletes (Russell Wilson and Verlander) and take pride in their victories.

We send our sons to VMI and to the Marines. We were enraged by the probable-deserter Bergdahl exchange for the five of the worst terrorists in the world. The celebratory ceremony in the Rose Garden with the Arabic-speaking bearded father spouting Islamic prayers was bizarre.

We resent Eric Holder using law suits to jam mosques down our throats.

We are angry that ministers feel compelled to remove the American flag from our churches, under threat of government sanction, or some misguided understanding of the Constitution.

We are sick of Republican Party leaders publicly ridiculing us.

It was a perfect storm.

If the Republicans are stupid enough to nominate Jeb Bush ("illegal immigration is an act of love"), and we need the federal government to tell Goochland High School how to educate and feed its children via Common Core and Michelle- mandated school lunches from the Agriculture Department, etc, Hillary can start measuring the drapes in the White House.

A tsunami is coming in November!

PS. A gardener friend explained it this way this morning- "people forget that we are only 50-100 miles away from DC- close enough to smell the stench!" The anger is raw and it is real.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2691895306810810791.post-57207671992904026902014-06-19T14:45:00.001-04:002014-06-19T14:45:25.087-04:00The Virginia Liberty Party Endorses Justin Smith for Chesterfield County Circuit Court Clerk in the Jul 19, 2014 Republican Primary

The Virginia Liberty Party Board has met and endorses Justin Smith for Chesterfield County Circuit Court Clerk in the July 19, 2014 Republican Primary.

Justin has the formal education, skills and experience to do the job, as mentioned in the Chesterfield Observer:

Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies with a minor in law and public policy from the University of Richmond.
They said yes to Free Markets and No to corrupt career politicians.

They shocked the nation and the political class of the left and right by replacing embattled Eric Cantor with Milton Friedman disciple and Free Market conservative Dave Brat.

This was a seismic event because Cantor outspent Brat about 25 to 1 ($5 million to $250,000).

But before you congratulate the grassroots voters, the local Tea Party groups, Dave Brat or his well known endorsers (Mark Levin, Anne Coulter and Laura Ingraham), you need to look to none other than Floyd Bayne.

Bayne paved the way to unseating the House Majority Leader. Since before 2010 Floyd had been shouting from the rooftops to anyone who would listen of Cantor’s crony politics, crony capitalism and big government voting on spending, Federal Authority and loss of Individual Constitutional guaranteed Liberties.

In 2010, Bayne ran as an independent against Cantor, and gathered those who were awake to Cantor duplicitousness and big government voting. They woke up more people. Bayne garnered the biggest support for an independent in Virginia’s 7th District History, with a Democrat in the race. He got 7% of the vote.

Then in 2012, many asked Floyd to join the Republican Party and primary Eric Cantor. More people awoke to Cantor and his double political life, touting to be a solid conservative, but voting big government. This time Bayne got 20% in the Republican Primary, paving the way for the 2014 Brat victory. Where many were wide awake and Brat creamed Cantor.

So now that Cantor is out limited government and libertarian voters have two choices for a more limited government candidate Republican nominee Dave Brat and Libertarian Party nominee James Carr
OK, that's a fair question, please allow me to answer.

The short and quick answer is, "I don't." Dave Brat, like Eric Cantor, may start out with good intentions and then, ultimately, be turned to the dark side. We just don't know. Brat does not have a voting record we can look to. His history is in the world of academia, so we have to turn there and see what it tells us. In the meantime I have to base my decision on other factors.

I have seen what Eric Cantor is doing and has done for many years now and I don't like it. I have seen Cantor's voting record and I don't like it. OK, that said, why would I choose Dave Brat? I have spoken to Dave Brat on several occasions, man to man, with no intermediary to "spin his words." I have shaken the man's hand and looked him in the eye. I was impressed with his bearing/demeanor and sincerity. I have asked him questions that he did not seek to avoid, but instead answered right away, without hesitation. I liked his answers. Do I agree with Dave Brat on every issue that we could address? No. But in the end I do believe that he has a firm grasp on the Constitution, the proper role of government, economic issues, and will work to reduce the size, scope, and spending of the federal government.

I have tried to talk with Cantor, both as a constituent, prior to my attempting to unseat him, and as an adversary, seeking to debate him. I never got anything but political song and dance. I have shaken hands with Cantor on a couple of occasions and a dead fish would provide a firmer grip. Maybe that is a minor point, but those sorts of things mean something to me. They tell me something about the man. He avoided eye contact on each occasion, seeking instead to "get away" from me as quickly as possible. A man who believes in himself and his record would not need to avoid speaking to his constituents.

It should also be noted that Dave Brat will not only seek term limits as our representative, but has self-imposed his own term limit. I heard him say it. Many of you heard him say it and we have it on record, so the chances of his being "turned" are minimized. I will also tell you, as I told Dave in one of our conversations, if he doesn't do what he promises to do, if he turns against us and his oath, I will work just as hard to get him out of there as I am working to get rid of Cantor. He responded by telling me that he would expect nothing less from me or any constituent.

So, for those reading this, who have asked me why, those are among my reasons for supporting Dave Brat.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2691895306810810791.post-15892606264093572192014-06-04T12:00:00.000-04:002014-06-04T12:00:05.253-04:00Since You Won't Do The Research...
By Floyd Bayne

There is a primary coming up here in Virginia. On June 10 you and I will decide who we want to be our Congressional representative from the 7th district going forward. Our sitting Congressman, one Eric Ivan Cantor, is being challenged by a college economics professor (Good, we need someone who understands economics), David Brat. Given recent events in the 7th district there are many who feel that Brat has a real chance to unseat Cantor. We shall see.

In the meantime there have been speeches, news articles/TV reports, blogs, protests, Facebook posts, and a plethora of mailers (Most from the Cantor camp), telling us who we should vote for and why. To say that the Cantor camp has been relying on deception and lies would be an understatement, in my humble opinion, but then there are those who disagree with my assessment and have taken me to task for it. Certain Republican Committee Facebook pages in the 7th district have banned me and others from posting on them. What offense did I commit? Did I use foul language, that would elicit a gasp of dismay from the more sensitive readers of the page? Did I post ridiculously inaccurate ramblings about Cantor or Brat? Did I call people who disagreed with me bad names? Nope, none of the above. I simply had the nerve, the unmitigated gall to post examples of Eric Cantor's voting record in an effort to point out how he was anything but a conservative. Well, we can't have that.

Cantor and his camp tell us that I, Brat, and others are lying when we say that Cantor is for amnesty for illegal aliens. They say we are wrong when we call out Cantor for altering the STOCK Act to allow family of Congress members to continue to trade illegally on the stock market. OK, let's continue to the end here and see and hear from Cantor himself.

In challenging me, and others, regarding my posts, I have been accused of posting "allegations, assertions, slander, and innuendo" about Cantor. Again, all I have done is post examples of his voting record, but I suppose if that is damaging to someone's assessment of the representative then of course they will say I am wrong. If I am wrong then the Library of Congress is wrong. VoteSmart.org is wrong. OpenSecrets.org is wrong. Well, you get the picture. There are many sites one can go to and look at Cantor's voting record for themselves, but one must be desirous of the truth. Alas, I can only hope that some of them may yet come around to that way of thinking. What is truly sad is that those who revile me for pointing these things out could have done this research themselves, if the truth actually mattered to them. The average voter could do the same research if they weren't, apparently, so lazy and willing to just believe whatever the party tells them. But if I can help reach one or two heretofore uneducated voters then I will consider my efforts worth it.

In many of my posts I ask those who disagree with me to prove me wrong. I challenge them to "look it up" themselves and tell me where I got it wrong. I have yet to receive any correction of my posts. What I have received is the usual name-calling, total disregard for the truth, and in some cases, being banned from their pages. I guess the truth is not really wanted by some among us. In my continuing effort to educate the voters, or as many as I can, in the 7th district, and to simply encourage critical thinking, I am including links to examples of Cantor's actions/words. I am not the only one who feels Cantor has forsaken the Republican Party Creed or his oath to the Constitution. Also, consider that the sources I cite have been used by the same people who now rail against me, when it suited their purposes. You will note, particularly in the video clips, that you will hear Cantor's own words. Listen to them and then compare them to his subsequent actions. You be the judge.

Eric Cantor: Amnesty for Children of Illegal Immigrants

Cantor backs amnesty for undocumented immigrants enlisted in military

Eric Cantor - The New Mr. Amnesty?

Laura Ingraham Calls Eric Cantor Pro-Amnesty on Immigration

Eric Cantor: Lies and Hypocrisy on Amnesty

Mark Levin: Eric Cantor is only pretending to oppose amnesty

Cantor relentless in push for amnesty for illegal alien youth

GOP Rep: Cantor behind attempt to sneak amnesty into NDAA

Cantor promises swift action on STOCK Act

S. 716 "Gut the STOCK Act" passes House

This is by no means a comprehensive listing. Must be nice to have all that money to spend to tell people whatever you want them to believe.

In today's editions (there are three of them) we are told how Cantor is fighting for senior citizens and to protect social security, because, of course, that evil Dave Brat wants to take it away from people. *rolling eyes* But the one I want to address is the mailer that tells me that Cantor has "proven conservative leadership." Guys, I can't make this stuff up. Proven? Based on what, his speeches? It sure as hell isn't his voting record.

There is a checklist that asks - What makes a proven leader? Actions, not words. - Good grief, people, the man and his camp are absolutely delusional. Everything they list is so easily researched and found to be wrong that I can not even pretend to be nice to any voter who is too damn lazy to do any homework. The list says that Cantor is "fighting to cut taxes for individuals and small businesses." OK, name one such bill that he has gotten passed. Just one. Go ahead, I'll wait.

It goes on to say that he is "cutting spending and ending 'business as usual' in Washington." OH MY GOD! Seriously?! He is the poster boy for business as usual. But again, name one example of spending being cut that Cantor had anything to do with. With all the money Cantor is spending to send these mailers out you'd think that someone on his staff could find one example they could cite in the mailer, wouldn't you?

It wraps up by telling me that Cantor is "preventing the government's interference between physicians & their patients." I am absolutely flabbergasted. Has he not been reading the news lately? What planet has he been on for the past five years? Again, name one example of his work in this regard. Come on! There has to be someone in the Cantor camp who is reading this on someone's Facebook page. Please, cite just one example of any of these things that he is supposed to have done.

I cannot use the words that I would like to use in describing my thoughts on Eric Cantor, as there may be women or children who could see this, and maybe some men, who don't like strong language. But Eric Cantor's lying, and that of his staff, along with the willing ignorance of his supporters, is simply an amazing thing to observe. What must it be like to have no conscience?
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2691895306810810791.post-91606649502276073432014-05-30T15:00:00.000-04:002014-05-30T15:00:01.494-04:00Another Day Another Mailer
By Floyd Bayne - MAY 28, 2014

Another day, another mailer. In today's episode of "Can Eric Cantor tell the truth?" we are told that Eric Cantor is "standing up to" the IRS, regarding the scandal surrounding the treatment of the Tea Party and other conservative groups by the IRS.

Let me ask you, especially you Republican/Cantor faithful, who just cannot bring yourselves to believe that Cantor would lie to you, how long has this scandal been going on? One year? Two? A little more? In the mailer two articles are cited as proof that Cantor is fighting for the American people, working to get to the truth, leading the way for the conservative cause. Do you know when those articles are dated? THIS MONTH - May 2014. Uh, Eric, where were you when this scandal broke? Where was your "leadership" in the beginning? Why do we have to wait for guys like Issa, Amash, or Gowdy to make noise, or for an election year, before you finally step up? Go ahead, folks, you're on the computer right now, if you're reading this, do a Google search and look for articles from the outbreak of the scandal. See if you can find any examples of Cantor "leading" the search for truth.

In the same mailer Cantor laments that the abuses of the IRS have stifled our First Amendment rights. Well now, isn't that nice. Cantor cares about the Bill of Rights now. Hey, Eric, if you're so concerned about the First Amendment maybe you, or one of your minions, can explain why you voted for "H.R. 347 (112th): Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011." I could run off a list of votes from Cantor that have violated the Bill of Rights, but lets just stay with the First Amendment for right now. Am I making this up? Am I wrong about H.R. 347? Hmmm, you decide.

When are you guys going to realize just how stupid Eric Cantor hopes/thinks you are? And we have previously corresponded on this issue. Floyd, like myself, has been attacked by the Republican Committee in our respective counties. Eric Cantor and Linwood Cobb tightly control both my home committee in Hanover and Floyd’s committee in Chesterfield. And there was a big effort before the Convention to purge as many people as possible that were known to support Fred Gruber. Chesterfield managed to successfully banish Floyd and my friend Joe Cacciotti. Hanover was unsuccessful in banning me.

Thankfully, these underhanded Cantor dirty tricks were not enough to overcome the righteousness of the grassroots and Fred Gruber sent Linwood Cobb packing.

Floyd Bayne has an interesting take on the day and it is worth the read:

I am home now and winding down a bit. It has been an interesting, frustrating, tedious, and ultimately exhilarating day. Please allow me to relate the days events, as well as some past days events that led up to it.

A couple of months ago I signed up to be a delegate to the Republican Party’s 7th District Convention, held today at the Hilton Hotel in Short Pump. I was going there to support my friend, Fred Gruber, to be the new chairman for the district. I submitted my application through a friend in Chesterfield, who was serving as a volunteer for Gruber. I did this rather than submit it directly through the Chesterfield County Republican Committee, because he and I both knew that were I to do that it would get…..”lost.” Well, the county mass meeting came along and my application was accepted. However, between the submission date and a few weeks ago, the committee’s board, led by one Donald Williams (No fan of mine) decided that this just could not stand.

I eventually received an e-mail from the local “Credentialing Committee” (along with my friend, Joe Cacciotti) to attend a meeting they were to hold on a weeknight, to afford me the opportunity to “answer some questions,” lest my application be rejected. You see, I do not say nice things about RINO’s and I had the audacity to run against Eric Cantor twice, that just really grinds their gears. Well, I had better things to do than defend an application that had already been accepted and I told them so and did not attend. The following week I received another e-mail telling me that my application had been rejected. I was not going to be allowed to be a delegate for Fred Gruber. I was shocked, shocked I tell you. I made some inquiries about options that were available to me and was told that I should attend the convention and meet with the district credentialing committee prior to the opening of the convention. This I did.

I arrived early for the David Brat Breakfast and Town Hall Meeting across the street at a local eatery. I immediately saw my friend Ken Davis putting yard signs together, so I helped put up a bunch of those along the entrance to the Hilton. I spoke with several other Brat supporters and folks who had supported my campaigns in the past. We all shared our hope that the day’s events would play out in our (liberties) favor. I saw and spoke to Doc Thompson and Dave Brat before the Town Hall kicked off..Along with Brat we also heard from Senatorial candidate, Shak Hill. The event only served to confirm my decision to support both of these gentlemen.

Read the rest of Floyd’s post here.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2691895306810810791.post-26392933766292999592014-05-16T12:00:00.000-04:002014-05-16T12:00:00.271-04:00Eric Cantor’s Top Aide: I’ll ‘Bankrupt’ Virginia GOP, Install Allies, Rebuild It With Cantor’s Donor Cash
by David Steinberg - May 15th, 2014 * READ Cantor Ally Defeated and Cantor Booed by Republicans *

Sources tell PJ Media that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s long-time top consultant, Ray Allen, has “angrily” stated to multiple individuals that he intends to bankrupt the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV), to install his own people throughout all levels of RPV’s State Central Committee, and to rebuild the RPV with money from Eric Cantor’s donors.

Ray Allen is considered the “brain trust” of Eric Cantor’s Young Guns, which has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and has hired staff with the intention of retaking control of the RPV at all levels. (Eric Cantor and Ray Allen lost control of the RPV in 2012, when Tea Party/conservative candidates won seats at all levels of the party, taking majority control from Cantor allies.) In this effort to reclaim the majority, Ray Allen has helped orchestrate the parliamentary procedure of “slating” at several RPV conventions this season.

Slating involves disenfranchising all properly registered delegates at a district convention in favor of a vote by only a few dozen handpicked delegates. This tactic was employed to protect the incumbent chairmanships of some Cantor allies: hundreds to thousands of Tea Party/conservative delegates have been forcefully ejected from VA RPV conventions over the past few weeks and months.

However, the ejected delegates and others opposed to Team Cantor have since had success appealing the slating attempts, leaving Allen and Cantor with little to show for their hardball tactics other than alienated constituents, a terrible local public relations problem, and worse, a rapidly gaining primary opponent in challenger Dave Brat.

Sources additionally claim that Allen has attempted to meddle in the multiple appeals of his slating attempts — Allen was reportedly looking to guide how the appeals should be conducted.

These bombshell allegations — implying that Eric Cantor’s reelection effort intends to dismantle the Republican Party of Virginia and to employ it as a vehicle for the expansion of Cantor’s power and influence — could not arrive at a more precarious moment for the Cantor campaign for two reasons:

1. Cantor just suffered a game-changing defeat at the Seventh District Republican Convention. On May 10, Linwood Cobb — a powerful Cantor advocate and ally — lost the chairmanship of the Seventh District to vocal Cantor critic Fred Gruber.

Additionally, Cantor’s speech at the convention received boos and heckling when he attempted to denigrate Dave Brat. Cantor, receiving this treatment in his own district, appeared visibly unnerved and needed to interrupt his speech to address the hecklers.

READ ENTIRE ARTICLE AND OTHER RELATED CANTOR STORIES HERE
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2691895306810810791.post-66613496387229008852014-05-15T12:00:00.000-04:002014-05-15T12:00:03.387-04:00Cantor and his Minions Respond to Convention Fiasco by Spreading More Lies
By Floyd Bayne

I wondered how Cantor and his minions would respond after Saturday's comeuppance and he did just as I expected he would - he doubled down.

I got two mailers today from his campaign. In one he continues the lie about Brat being a "liberal." Really, Eric, is that all you have? In the other, Cantor tells us how he is "Fighting for conservative values in Washington, D.C." Uhh, I guess his definition of "conservative" differs from mine.

Among the bullet points he makes (and hopes we're too stupid to know he's lying) are:

"Full repeal of Obamacare and replace it with real reform that protects the patient-doctor relationship and allows you to keep your health care plan."

Really, Eric? Is that why you continue to vote to allow funding for Obamacare? And will the "new plan" be a Republican approved government plan? That would mean that the government is still involved in what should be a free market decision, but that's OK, as long as the GOP approves, right?

"Tax relief for small businesses...."

Come on, Eric, when was the last time any type of tax reduction bill was placed before Congress?

"Continue to cut wasteful spending and stand up for our conservative values."

GOOD GRIEF! How delusional can the man be?! This is the same guy who voted for TARP, PEPFAR, keeps throwing money at AmTrak, and a whole laundry list of unconstitutional spending. Do I need to repost my research list again?

"Oppose Obama's spending hikes and tax increases."

*sigh* You know, it is truly sad that there are people in the 7th district who will actually believe this garbage. Oppose, huh? Explain then why you just voted to give Obama an UNLIMITED DEBT CEILING and no restrictions on spending.

Come on people. If any of you who are reading this still buy into Cantor's lies I would ask you to please do yourself and the rest of the 7th district a favor and just do some homework. Since nominating conventions favor conservatives, Virginia's Republican establishment, led in part by Cantor, has been trying to control who is seated as a delegate to the conventions.

Although early iterations succeeded, the plan now appears to be backfiring, energizing the base instead on Saturday much to the chagrin of moderate former Lieutenant Gov. Bill Bolling, who said in a statement that he was "extremely disappointed" to hear of the results.

“Clearly, there is a battle taking place for the heart and soul of the Republican Party. We are seeing this battle play out all across our state," Bolling lamented before calling conservatives the "extreme voices" that seek "to control our party and determine its future direction."

Bolling refused to support Republican gubernatorial nominee Ken Cuccinelli after Cuccinelli bested him for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, undermining the Republican's chances of winning the race in 2013.

Conservative activists say they have resented establishment Republicans like Bolling who preach "unity" only when their candidates win, and McSweeney said there "was also a longstanding resentment of the tactics of Cantor's consultants" for similar reasons.

One of those consultants was Boyd Marcus, the former partner of Cantor hand Ray Allen who joined Democrat Terry McAuliffe's campaign last year.

Local reports noted the anger at the Cantor machine and said the ouster was about the grassroots "finally having a seat at the table inside the Republican Party" in Virginia after Cantor and his lieutenants had been circling the wagons to "ensure as much control of the local politics surrounding him as possible."

Part of that has to do with controlling the nominating process, and reports about the hostility toward Cantor also had to do "with a preference among many grassroots activists for nominating candidates via conventions rather than consultant-driven open primaries."

Cantor also spent time at the convention attacking his primary opponent Dave Brat, whom Gruber, the new district Chair, supported.

Facing boos and heckles, Cantor appeared unsure of himself, attendees said.

READ THE REST OF THE ARTICLE HERE

Admin Note:

Read About Gruber Ousting Cantor’ Guy Here

and Read About Cantor Being Booed Here
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2691895306810810791.post-73063781412898758102014-05-12T12:00:00.000-04:002014-05-12T12:00:05.117-04:00Virginia: SEISMIC SHIFT IN THE 7th: What does Cobb’s ouster mean for the GOP?
By Steve Albertson - 5/10/2014

There are a number of lessons to take away from today’s shocking defeat of one of Eric Cantor’s top lieutenants in his home district. The future of the GOP depends on whether its elected leaders are willing to learn.

First, what happened? For the uninitiated, it can be difficult to read through all the inside baseball stuff about “slating” and “mass meetings” and the “Party Plan,” etc., so I’ll cut right to the chase. The big story is that Rep. Eric Cantor’s right hand man in his district, who served as that district’s GOP chairman, was ousted today at the 7th District GOP Convention by an insurgent coalition of those disaffected by the chairman’s and Cantor’s grip on local politics.

Much, but not most, of the anger channeled into bringing about this ouster has to do with a preference among many grass roots activists for nominating candidates via conventions rather than consultant-driven open primaries. But at bottom, for most of those in attendance at the 7th District GOP convention this was about finally having a seat at the table inside the Republican Party.

The Role of the Tea Party

A friend remarked to me after Cobb’s defeat that what made this possible was the unique vitality of various Tea Party groups within the 7th District. I responded, “Do you think that’s a coincidence?” In fact, it is not, but is instead a direct consequence of the way Rep. Cantor and his supporters have consistently circled the wagons around the Congressman to ensure as much control of the local politics surrounding him as possible. Where in other districts, like the 1st District where I live, Tea Party and libertarian newcomers have been welcomed into the GOP tent, in the 7th they have consistently been made to feel unwelcome inside the GOP.

Where in the 1st District my Congressman, Rep. Rob Wittman, has consistently reached out to and engaged with local Tea Party groups, and where party leaders like 1st District Chairman Eric Herr have eagerly welcomed the new energy and vitality they bring to our own processes, in the 7th the reception has been much more of a “barbarians at the gate” affair. The contrast could not be more stark: in the 1st District there is relative tranquility among various components of the conservative coalition, while in the 7th there has been open warfare. That’s because if you keep shutting people out, sooner or later you’re going to have so many people on the outside with an axe to grind that shocking upsets like the one today become almost inevitable.

Cobb supporters rightly note that he ran a very tight ship, and that all the trains have run on time inside the 7th. I even have had people praise Cobb to me by pointing out the total harmony in his 7th District meetings: everyone agrees on everything. These folks, like those advising Cantor, fail to see the irony in that: sycophantic unanimity is more a symptom of a problem than a condition flowing from superior leadership.

The Ray Allen Problem

Fmr. 7th District Chairman Linwood Cobb (l) and top Eric Cantor strategis Ray Allen (r)

We’ve written before about Ray Allen, who is Eric Cantor’s top consultant and who has been the architect of a campaign this year to flip a number of district chairman seats to candidates friendly to Cantor—and friendly to the nominating primaries that make so much money for Allen. It’s time for Eric Cantor to fire Ray Allen, whose lack of acumen about how to handle intraparty politics since the rise of the Tea Party in 2009 has done nothing but put a huge target on Eric Cantor’s backside. The fact that Cantor has, for the first time really, a serious primary challenger in Dave Brat is no accident.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2691895306810810791.post-19759262976076671822014-05-10T21:24:00.001-04:002014-05-10T21:24:35.417-04:00Eric Cantor gets Booed by Republicans at Virginia 7th District
By Kirby Harris

Eric Cantor got booed today, but not by liberals or progressives, but by his fellow Republican’s while he was giving a speech to the Virginia 7th District Convention.

Why did Cantor’s fellow Republicans boo him you might ask?

Well, Cantor called his primary opponent, Dave Brat, a ‘liberal college professor” at the convention. Well the crowd would have none of that lie, so they loudly booed him. They booed so loud that people couldn’t hear Cantor speaking.

Cantor wasn’t happy and even got mad and scolded the crowd.

Well, if you have been paying attention to this years primary race between Cantor and challenger Dave Brat, then you might know. Cantor has been running deceptive ads calling Dave Brat a “liberal college professor” who worked for Democrat Tim Kaine while Kaine was Governor of Virginia.

First, to call Brat a liberal is deceptive. Brat is a conservative and a disciple of conservative economic icon Milton Friedman. And Cantor knows Brat is not a liberal, but a conservative economics professor. Everyone who knows Brat, including liberal college professors, knows Brat is a conservative and no liberal.

Second, Brat was appointed to be on an economic counsel by Kaine, but Brat never advised Kaine on economic policy. Brat was one of many who made economic projections, but gave no advise. Kaine clearly chose Brat because he was a conservative, and Kaine needed a token conservative on the panel for political reasons to look fair.

And this isn’t new for Cantor. He did the same thing to ultra-conservative Floyd Bayne, TWICE, first in 2010 when Bayne ran against him as an independent and the second time when Bayne ran against him as a republican in the primary. He blatantly lied and called Bayne a liberal.

Well Cantor’s lies are catching up with him this time, and hopefully Dave Brat can now beat Cantor in the primary on June 10th.

Here is a news story that covers all the booing that went on today:

Cantor faces tea party fury in his back yard

BY JENNA PORTNOY - May 10, 2014

Just a few miles from his family home, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) felt the wrath of the tea party Saturday, when activists in his congressional district booed and heckled the second most powerful House Republican.

They also elected one of their own to lead Virginia’s 7th Congressional District Republican Committee, turning their back on Cantor’s choice for a post that is seen as crucial by both tea party and establishment wings in determining control of the fractured state GOP.

Former lieutenant governor Bill Bolling, himself pushed out of last year’s governor’s race by a similar party schism, said he was “extremely disappointed” by the results of the vote, in which longtime Cantor loyalist and incumbent Linwood Cobb was unseated by tea party favorite Fred Gruber.

“Clearly, there is a battle taking place for the heart and soul of the Republican Party,” Bolling said in a statement. “While the voice of every Republican should be heard, our challenge is to figure out how to be a conservative party, without allowing the most extreme voices of the day to control our party and determine its future direction.”

The tea party faction trumpeted the election results as a victory for core conservative principles of limited government, low taxes and a free market economy.

“There’s been an ongoing battle for years between conservatives and establishment and it’s a sweet victory when you win but you also win on the front porch of Eric Cantor,” said Jamie Radtke, a leader in the state tea party movement and former U.S. Senate candidate.

The first contested election in more than a decade forced the party to move the convention from a high school auditorium to a Hilton ballroom set up for more than 1,200 people.

The district chairman is an internal party post, responsible for rallying activists and volunteers at election time — and with the power to influence state party decisions such as whether to hold primaries or conventions to choose party nominees. A chairman is selected only by party activists for each of Virginia’s 11 congressional districts.

Cantor appeared with his family at the event, where Republicans had packed the house. He was there in part to address his own reelection prospects. He faces David Brat, a tea-party backed opponent, in a June 10 primary that will be open to all voters in the district.

Any sign that Cantor’s support has slipped among the region’s most active Republicans could spell a tougher challenge during next month’s election. And some of the crowd’s reaction Saturday when Cantor took a shot at Brat made clear that the Republican majority leader has not yet fully shored up support.

Kirby Harrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05274757163676918775noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2691895306810810791.post-53143444255629422362014-05-10T19:46:00.001-04:002014-05-10T19:46:15.161-04:00Fred Gruber wins Virginia 7th District Chairman: Blow to the Eric Cantor Political Machine
By Kirby Harris

Against all odds Tea Party Candidate Fred Gruber took out one of Eric Cantor’s lieutenants, Seventh district Chair Linwood Cobb.

The Final Talley was 675 To 630. The Cobb/Cantor Folks were scrambling til the end putting the all the votes under a microscope.

But in the end Gruber had the votes and is now the new Virginia 7th District Chairman. Congratulations to Fred Gruber!!!

This is an amazing feat for Gruber (or any other candidate for man reasons. Cobb has stacked the deck with Cantor’s help over the years. Like charging a $5, 000 filing fee to run for chairman, buying up all the hotel rooms at the convention, not letting Gruber use any of the convention space except eventually letting them use a small table and the lsit goes on and on.

From the Bull Elephant:

One of the possible reasons no challengers have previously emerged is the very steep barrier to entry erected by Cobb’s Committee: the Committee charged a $5000 filing fee for anyone running for Chairman, which is about 10 times higher than the fees charged in other districts.

Originally scheduled to be held in a high school gymnasium, the venue was later moved to the Hilton, both to accommodate the expected crowds and a turnout-generating breakfast with Congressman Cantor. The Bull Elephant has learned that all of the hotel’s meeting rooms have been booked for the event, though only a handful are needed.

Despite the fact that filing fees are usually charged to help defray the costs of the Convention, thus entitling any candidate equal access to and use of the facility, we are told that Cobb’s Committee is not allowing Gruber or his supporters the use of any of the facilities (including the child care room, where delegates with young children may leave them with a baby sitter). Hotel staff have confirmed that the “convention organizer” controls all the meeting rooms, and that the lack of available space is not simply a consequence of the rooms having been rented by third parties. According to a source close to Gruber, Cobb only grudgingly allowed the Gruber campaign to have a single table near the registration area, and only conceded to that yesterday.

Most of all this comes as a huge blow to Cantor as has Cobb used the position to keep Cantor in power. And if Brat doesn’t beat Cantor on June, 10th, then Cantor won’t have Cobb to ensure he has it easy and ahs no challenger's with a chance in the primary. Gruber will ensure that Cantor isn’t treated like he’s king and it’s his seat. And any challenger will be treated fairly and have a chance.

As far as, Cobb and Cantor stacking the deck in the 7th District, read this article by Floyd Bayne on how they prevented him from becoming a delegate at this convention and his day at the convention as just an observer:

http://www.floydbayne.com/2014/05/a-good-day-after-all.html
Kirby Harrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05274757163676918775noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2691895306810810791.post-80694718219417947592014-05-07T10:00:00.000-04:002014-05-07T10:00:04.201-04:00USA TODAY Fact check: Eric Cantor mislabels primary opponent
Robert Farley, FactCheck.org - USA Today - May 6, 2014

An ad from House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., falsely implies his Republican challenger advised Democratic governor Tim Kaine on taxes.

Cantor brands Tea Party-backed Dave Brat a "liberal college professor" because he served on the Governor's Advisory Board of Economists "while Kaine tried to raise our taxes." But the board provided professional economic forecasts, not advice on tax policy.

Brat, a lifelong Republican who chairs the department of economics and business at Randolph-Macon College, is far behind in the fundraising battle for the Republican primary in Virginia's 7th Congressional District. Records show Brat has raised just under $90,000. As of the end of March, Cantor had more than $2 million cash on hand. But Cantor is taking Brat's challenge seriously enough to air this attack ad.

Here's the text of the ad, called "Advisor":

Narrator: College professor David Brat is running against our conservative congressman Eric Cantor. But Brat worked on Democrat Gov. Tim Kaine's Council of Economic Advisors while Kaine tried to raise our taxes by over $1 billion on cars, insurance and income. Now, liberal David Brat is running for Congress as a Republican. Liberal college professor? Tim Kaine adviser? Republican? Come on professor, you've got to be kidding.

The ad takes two independently accurate claims — that Brat served on then-governor Tim Kaine's Advisory Board of Economists and that Kaine proposed to raise taxes — but links them in a misleading way to conclude that Brat is a "liberal." The Governor's Advisory Board of Economists, now called the Joint Advisory Board of Economists (JABE), is a group made up of professional economists charged with providing national and state economic forecasts. It does not advise on policy decisions about taxes.

It's true, as a Cantor campaign website noted, that Brat was originally appointed to the board by Kaine in 2006. But Brat continued to serve on the board under Kaine's Republican successor, Gov. Bob McDonnell, as well. That's not unusual. Many JABE members have served under multiple governors, both Republicans and Democrats.

It's also true that in 2009, then-governor Kaine proposed a combination of spending cuts and increased taxes to address a projected budget shortfall. Specifically, Kaine called for a 1% increase in the state income tax to offset the proposed elimination of the local car tax. The GOP-dominated House of Delegates rejected Kaine's plan.

Ray Allen Jr., a political adviser to Cantor, told us the ad makes two factual claims, and that "no one is disputing the actual facts." At least not separately.

Strung together, however, the ad implies that Brat advised Kaine on taxes, and that's not the case. The board's old name — the Governor's Advisory Board of Economists — may contribute to the confusion. While the name may suggest the board provides the governor with sweeping economic advice, the board's mission is actually very narrow: to provide forecasts of national and state economic growth. According to Virginia Code, JABE is charged with providing economic forecasts based on "economic assumptions and technical econometric methodology."

Those projections are then reviewed by the Advisory Council on Revenue Estimates, which is chaired by the governor and populated by other legislators and private sector employees appointed by the governor. That board settles on a revenue projection, and the governor subsequently proposes a budget based on that projection.

Finance Secretary Ric Brown told our fact-checking colleagues at PolitiFact Virginia that the board on which Brat served was "part of an overall process that does feed into the revenue process and policy changes." But he said the board does not make tax recommendations.

Roy Webb, an economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond who has served on JABE for five Virginia governors (including Republicans and Democrats), said it is a "nonpartisan group that has a narrow interest on a very technical subject: to forecast the economic activity so that it can be used for the state's budget. In that sense, it is very straightforward. Is the economy going to be weak or is it going to be strong? It could be seen as a basic feature of good government. It makes it harder for any administration to come up with a budget based on some crazy forecast."

Webb said Brat's work on the board did not betray any partisan leanings, as the work is nonpartisan. But Brat's comments outside of their meetings, made it "clear that he's distinctly right of center," Webb said. "But how does that affect making the case for a strong or weak economy?"

Brat told us he would have been against tax increases — "I'm on the Republican side of the agenda" — but those kinds of political opinions have no place in his role on JABE.

"That's not an issue that belongs in the conversation," Brat said. "I wasn't an elected official to represent anybody. That's not part of what we did."

McDonnell spokesman Jeff Caldwell told Watchdog.org at the time that isn't the role of JABE.

"The advisory board is not used to review policy decisions and has never been consulted for policy decisions," Caldwell told Watchdog.org for its March 8, 2013, story.

We asked the Cantor campaign for other back-up for its claim that Brat is a "liberal college professor." Allen said it is a long campaign (the primary is on June 10), but he provided no other evidence besides the fact that Brat served on JABE under Kaine.

Since 2005, Brat has been a special legislative assistant to Virginia State Sen. Walter Stosch, a Republican Senate leader. In 2013, Brat was appointed by McDonnell, a Republican, to serve on the Board of Accountancy. And despite an image in the ad of Kaine wearing a "Go Dave!" button, Sen. Kaine's press office assures us Kaine is not supporting Brat.

Brat said he tries to not reveal his political leanings in his job as a professor, though he allows that his research has tended to focus on the ideas of Milton Friedman, a proponent of free market economics and minimal government intervention who served as an adviser to President Ronald Reagan.

Three of Brat's colleagues in the department of economics and business at Randolph-Macon College scoffed at the characterization of Brat as a "liberal college professor."

"Many collegiate faculty are branded as being 'liberals,' by stereotype," George S. Lowry, professor of business at Randolph-Macon College, told us via email. "In my opinion, David Brat most certainly does not fit this stereotype. The campaign ad is not an accurate description."

Added Barry Pfitzner, a professor of economics at Randolph-Macon College, via email: "In my experience (his office is next to mine and has been for years), that label, for Dave, could not be more inaccurate."

"Dave Brat is not a liberal college professor," said Paul Sikkar, a CPA in the department, via email. "He is often bumping heads with his constituents with his conservative views. The Cantor ad regarding Dave Brat is flat out wrong."

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
